Why I Ditched Perfume (and Spray Cans) for Good

For years, I lived in the gym. I trained hard, sweated harder, and relied on one thing to keep me “fresh” a spray can of deodorant. It was fast, convenient, and felt like the only option when you’re constantly on the move.

But here’s the truth: I wouldn’t even touch those cans now.

What You Put on Your Skin Matters

Your skin is your largest organ. It absorbs what you put on it and feeds it straight into your bloodstream. Think about that for a second, everything from your deodorant to your perfume isn’t just sitting on your skin; it’s working its way inside you.

Perfumes and aerosol sprays are some of the worst offenders. They’re often packed with:

  • Synthetic fragrances (hidden under the word “fragrance,” which can mean hundreds of undisclosed chemicals).

  • Endocrine disruptors that mess with your hormones.

  • Carcinogens and allergens that cause long-term damage you don’t feel right away.

And when you spray it? You’re not just coating your skin, you’re inhaling it into your lungs.

The Perfume Problem for Women

Women are especially vulnerable. Many of these chemicals mimic or block estrogen, which can impact cycles, fertility, mood, and even increase risks around perimenopause and menopause. If you’re feeling “off” and never considered your beauty products, it’s worth connecting the dots.

My Non-Negotiables

I’ve stripped back my routine to just three products I actually trust on my skin:

  • Aesop Herbal Deodorant Roll-On – no more aerosol clouds, just clean, natural coverage.

  • Aesop SPF 50 Protective Facial Lotion – because protecting your skin from the sun is non-negotiable.

  • Aesop Marrakech Intense Parfum – my one indulgence. I love this smell, and it doesn’t carry the same chemical storm as commercial perfumes.

Minimal. Clean. Intentional.

Why I’ll Never Go Back

The spray cans? Gone. The synthetic perfumes? Not worth the hormone havoc. I’m not interested in covering my body in toxins for the sake of “smelling nice.”

Instead, I choose products that work with my body, not against it. Because looking good, feeling strong, and staying healthy starts with what you put on your skin, not just what you put in your body.
