Breath work with Ron Saleh = A Game Changer
Today I had the absolute privilege of joining a breathwork workshop with Ron Saleh through my incredible reformer Pilates studio, Kefi.
Ron guided us through a 45-minute session that was both grounding and powerful. Afterwards, he explained so much about the magic of our breath and I left with a whole new appreciation for something we often take for granted.
Here are a few things that really stuck with me:
1. The Breath is the Only Thing We Can Control
Our breath is unique, it’s automatic, but also something we can consciously control. It’s the gateway to calming the mind, regulating the body, and creating space for healing.
2. Why Do Breathwork?
Breathwork isn’t just about deep inhales and exhales, it’s about unlocking what’s going on inside.
To calm anxiety and stress.
To release stored emotions and trauma.
To build focus, energy, and resilience.
To reset the nervous system when life has us on overdrive.
3. How Do We Get Better at Breathwork?
Like any practice, consistency is key.
Start with short daily sessions (even 5 minutes can shift your state).
Pair breathwork with yoga, meditation, or stillness practices.
Learn different techniques like box breathing, circular breathing, or longer exhales, each brings a unique effect on the body.
Work with a facilitator (like Ron) who can guide you deeper.
4. Three Main Benefits of Breathwork
Nervous System Reset – Activates the parasympathetic nervous system, taking us out of “fight or flight.”
Emotional Release – Breathwork can move stuck emotions and create space for healing.
Mental Clarity & Energy – A clearer head, more focus, and greater vitality.
For me, this work is deeply personal. I’ve mentioned before in my blogs that my parasympathetic nervous system has been on high alert for years. Through Yin yoga with my beautiful instructors Natalie Ristoski & Rosie Robinson, I’ve been slowly calming things down, opening up the breath, and releasing blockages in the body.
But today with Ron, it went to another level. His techniques brought up a whole new layer. With yoga, I often find emotions rising, I cry, I soften. With breathwork, I felt dizzy, lightheaded, like my mind was trying to let go but my consciousness (hello ADHD!) wasn’t ready to fully surrender.
Still, every session feels like another piece of healing. I’m absolutely loving this journey and learning to be kinder to my body every step of the way.
Breathing is free. It’s powerful. And it’s always with us.
